Canon has created a flurry of new sensors since the 70D.
-70D
-7D Mark II
-80D
-T6i / M3
-5Ds
-1DXII
- 5D4
Canon has gotten back to it's .. create a sensor each time they roll out a new camera.
The T6 and 80D were both new fab sensors, and both were 24MP .. the T6 simply didn't have DPAF and ADC (maybe)
if they use the 80D sensor, it would have the SAME issues at the M3.. vignetting and casting issues.
so while it may be the same sensor, it MAY have different microlenses, and be optimized for the M series.
