Late summer flowers with Pana G7 and Oly 60mm macro
3

It's hot and dry here. All the spring and early summer flowers are gone but there are some fall flowers to be photographed. I visited a quarried site in our city's open space yesterday to get some pictures of what's in bloom and to scout for a walk I'm leading next Sunday. There was a variety in bloom including two of my favorite wildflowers. Some pictures:

Lots of Heerman's tarweed (Holocarpha heermannii). In addition to the color, you get the tarry fragrance when you touch the plant.

zauschneria or california fuschia (Epilobium canum).  The plant is usually pretty short so this is the first time I've been able to get blue sky behind the flower.

Vinegar weed.  Such an elegant shape with the stamens and pistil above the flower petals.  It's a tiny flower with little separation from the main stem so getting a single flower in isolation is not easy.  As the name implies, if you touch the plant you get a vinegary smell on your hands.  I like it.
