Recomendations for a standard zoom EF-S on M10

Hi.  I have just bought a bargain EOS M10 as a second body to my EOS 40D.  I am using the EF-M adaptor so I can use my old lenses with it.  I have not bought a new lens for a long time, so I'm not in touch with the current options.

I have a Sigma 18-50 f2.8 (not the newer macro version) that I really liked on the 40D, but the focus (especially low-light) is really poor with the M10 and an adaptor, which is a shame since the size combination is perfect.  I have contacted Sigma, and they say it is too old to support with parts or firmware, so I don't see it getting any better.

Conversely, the Canon 24-15 f4L is fantastic, quick and sharp, but a bit too heavy and unwieldy for the little body.

So my question is, what EF-S standard lens (somewhere in the 18-100ish range) would anyone recommend that isn't too bulky, but has decent compatibility, focus speed, etc, through the adaptor?  I want to avoid buying EF-M lenses so I can keep using my 40D.

Thanks for your help.
