Trying out a two camera alternative with close interaxial

I finally am taking the step of playing with a two camera solution to digital stereo. Of course having one that is purpose made is good BUT. In the days of film stereo, the best of the lot were custom spliced planar cameras. And in the roaring fifties, there were those who realized that paired Robot cameras were the ultimate in flexibility,
So having a nice Panasonic GX 7 and two 14-42 kit lenses, I decided to spring for a used GX 7 for a decent price of $400.00 from the renowned KEH. I will later on this year post photos of some of my rig set up -once I figure out what I will do and what will be acceptable for field use. I am judging that the lens centers can be as close as 2-5/8 " or even a squeeze less. We shall see. One fellow did a pairing of these but his rig may not be the best of all possible worlds. For those who are more experienced, I would welcome any thoughts and ideas. I am not all that mechanical, but willing to learn. Here is the one idea that has the cameras vertical but that suits me fine..the GX7 is a superb instrument and is a decent price these days in exellent condition btw.

Wish this chap who does rotation for a living would quote turn off 'the bubble machine 'for a second! I dig the idea of access and use of the remote control. Which is a simple common wired mini plug. Perfect synch is not my goal. Good lenses and exposure is. Focus is something I will probably use on manual, which is always safe when seeking long DOF in a stereo shot. Anyone else here interested? Double trouble-I know, I know..
