Why are view finder photos not as sharp as live view - SL1 / 100D

Dears

I got my Canon SL1 / 100D 2 years back as a long pending updgrade to my Canon A620. I had posted a few questions on why I though the SL1 felt a bit underwhelming as compared to my compact in the initial few days. My compact used to give tack sharp photos every time. The SL1 did not seem to focus correctly sometimes time atleast in the places I wanted it to focus. I put this down to my lack of knowledge / experience of using a DSLR. I though I would read up, learn and use the camera, and over time I will get the hang of it.

I did use my camera quite a bit in these last 2 years and have been happy with it overall. Recently I got the sensor cleaned from an official Canon repair centre. I then took the camera out for a ride and was shocked to note that most of my photos were clearly out of focus. I tried clicking the same subjects using live view and VOILA, the photos were tack sharp - just like the used to be from my beloved compact.

So it comes as a big shock that the view finder actually is doing a very poor job of focusing. Is there some way I can rectify this problem. I have attached some sample images from the view finder and its corresponding equivalent from the live view.

Look forward to your advice's
