I was in California to say hello to my first grandchild. I took by G7 and the 25mm f/1.4 lens.
I usually leave the camera in face detect focus, because if there is a face in the picture that's likely to be what I want to focus on. But I found it was not so willing to identify the baby's face.
Touch screen focus absolutely worked great in those situations.
Here's one (believe me, one of many) that shows what it let me do. The baby is staring at a wooden stand that is meant for suspending soft toys where she can swat them, even though it is accidental at this age. It certainly interests her. What makes me pleased is that focus is on her face, not on the closer-to-the-lens hanging toys:
