24-85mm as a replacement for 18-55mm

At the moment I am using the 18-55mm VRII on my D750 for photographing items in a museum collection which vary from clothing, textile, paper, postcards to small items such buttons and stamps.

I've found that the 18-55 suits my needs and produces good quality images. The only issue I have now and again is that I crop the image by forgetting to frame correctly.

Just wondering if there would be anything to gain to switching to the 24-85mm  instead. One thing that I do wonder about is that the 18-55 focuses closer.

Any thoughts on this/

Thanks

One photo out of focus is a mistake, ten photos out of focus are an experimentation, one hundred photos out of focus are a style. Anon
