Re: Very good comparison of DP2s vs DP2x (non-Merrill)

It's clear the metering system and the way SPP handles the raw files differs among the S/X models (and to a greater extent among all the non-Merrill/Quattro DP models).

My former DP1s slightly overexposed the images and this was apparent from the raw files. On the other hand, there is some specific algorithm implemented in the DP2s' metering system - it pulls the histogram to the left whenever it's possible (to protect the highlights, even if you intentionally try to overexpose the images) and the shutter speed generated by the evaluative metering corresponds with this phenomena (it's 0.3 - 1 stop slower compared to DP2x on average - check the article in OP). Raw files opened in SPP appear to be dull and underexposed in default settings (compared to vivid and bright ones generated by DP1s or DP2/x).

As we all know, it's a bad idea trying to underexpose the images using the Foveon-based camera, so the DP2s' users should either expose for shadows or use the center weighted average metering that essentially offers the exposure estimation comparable to the one generated by the evaluative metering in DP2x/DP2.
