I would hope in future Olympus puts one of their newer sensors (16MP or even 20MP) in a similar package. For the rest I can't think of anything else...
I don't,......the best image quality I have among my cameras is the Canon SX280 (12mp) and my Stylus 1S (12mp), Canon has recently started using a 20mp sensor in its compacts with as far as I can see no advantages at all, infact the IQ has taken a step back if anything, 16MP on a small sensor with current technology for me is the max I want/need, 12mp on a stylus sensor is even better.
I have found the 1S image quality to be terrific, and low light performance is really pretty good, I put that down to the modest 12mp sensor, I dont think thw 1S sold very as its no longer available......no idea why, it is the best camera I have ever used and I have owned alot of cameras
Yes, that is a consideration indeed, and that is why I chose the Panasonic ZS50/TZ70 as my small pocket camera, rather than the higher pixel sensors in the previous and next models. But I still have hopes that technological advance will make a somewhat higher pixelcount possible without too much loss of IQ in low light.
