Tired of selling and buying lenses...recommendations wanted
Aug 17, 2016
I switched over to the Fuji system earlier this year and at one point had six lenses... thought I was done. I recently decided to trade in the lenses I didn't "love" for the 16-55 f/2.8 about 3-4 weeks ago. I used just the 16-55 on a recent trip and liked it a lot. It's a good "do everything" lens for me (its size doesn't bother me at all) except for maybe very low light situations.
Because it's now $200 less than what I paid, I returned it to Amazon for a refund (it hadn't been heavily used yet). I'll likely just re-buy it but my head is now swimming with options. Keep in mind I'm at the "enthusiast/suburban dad" level (photograph kids on the weekend, school performances, soccer games, some landscapes, etc.) but for some reason, I always end up with more advanced, more expensive gear than I need.
Here it is...yet another "what lens should I buy/what should I do" question...sorry.
Current kit: X-T10, 16mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, 50-140mm f/2.8 (I feel like the 50-140 gives me all I need on the long end...the 90mm interests me but I don't think it would get much use). Amazon credit is approx. $1100.
- Option 1: get the 16-55mm
- Option 2: Get the 10-24 and 18-55 - used. I would be re-buying the 18-55 which I recently sold. While I love the 16-55, I'm not a pro and the smaller 18-55 might do much of what I need. I liked most of the results I got with the 18-55 - but the f/2.8 and extra 2mm pulled me towards the 16-55. The 10-24 is appealing for landscapes.
- Option 3: dark horse option...get another camera body...a used or new X-T1 or X100T. The WR factor is appealing - and going out with a prime on the X-T10 and the 50-140 on an X-T1 would be fun I think.
- Option 4: another dark horse...pull some extra money together and pre-order the X-T2 (the new camera price premium is a turn off but the early reviews I've seen have been strong - but again, I'm not a pro.)
- Option 5: something else I haven't thought of?
- Option 6: use what I've got - stop buying new stuff - put the money towards Christmas presents.
Thanks for reading this very long post.
