Pentax k-50 macro photos help.

So I'm currently using the Pentax k-50 with the Laowa 60mm 2:1 manual macro lens. So far doing pretty good but I noticed a lot of my shots aren't as sharp as photos I have seen online from photographers using the same set up. I'm pretty new to photography but as I understood it, when you use the flash it should freeze the subject completely even if some motion is occurring.

Is this not true? I saw a YouTube video of Thomas Shahan using this setup and he is able to zoom in on the pictures and they stay very sharp even zoomed very far into the image which I'm not getting as much. Could it be his post processing that makes it that good? The only reason I ruled out post processing is that I thought you can't effect the focus in photoshop. You can't make a slightly out of focus image be in focus. I currently don't own any photoshop software so I don't know for sure.

Anyway, any tips on macro photography and obtaining stillness to achieve that crisp sharpness I'm looking for would help. I'm not using a tripod because they always seem to get in the way when shooting insects in the field so maybe some strap play tips or something like that. I know there is a lot that can effect the sharpness of an image so sorry if this is a bit vague ask any questions you want and I'll answer. Thanks for the help.
