I just got an X30. I have an intervalometer left over from my T4i days. I bought a 2.5mm adapter that B&H said would work. All the release button on the intervalometer does is FOCUS the camera. I have plugged it into the micro USB AND the 2.5mm jack. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance,

Tim

don't have the interval , but I use a canon remote (2.5mm pin) to activate the x30 needs to be afs . half press gives focus once you get conformation of focus lock you can press the remote shutter fully and it takes picture.sorry cant same anything more

Thanks for the reply. When I use the shutter release with the 2.5mm plugged in, the camera does nothing when I press the release button on the intervalometer. When I use the USB, all it does, when FULLY pressing the release button, is focus the camera. I've tried everything.

I've just repeated you tests and got almost identical results. A copy of the Fuji RR-90 plugged into the micro-USB works as expected but my Phottix intervalometer will only focus the X30 if plugged into the micro USB and does nothing at all if plugged into the 2.5mm jack. It had to switched on for even that to work.

So I tried the transmitter section of my wireless remote and this worked in both sockets as long as it was turned on. So I then tried triggering the receiver section from the transmitter and this did nothing in either socket.

I have a third device to try but it's giving my a PITA at the moment so I'll update later.

My tentative theory is that a mechanical switch works but an electronic one doesn't.

I have never used it(but I suspect I will at some point) but if it is helpful to you, the x30 has a built in intervalometer and it is quite good I hear. I bought one of Fuji's wired remotes(the RR 90)and it's fine but I don't use it as I downloaded Fuji's app and fire the shutter from my smartphone. That way there is even less vibration(none, actually) and if I have to change the focus point for some reason, I can(example, a bee on a flower). And obviously, I are not tethered to a wire so it is less constraining. Hope you enjoy your x30, I love mine- a joy to use. It will bring you a great deal of pleasure.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have used the built in intervalometer to try and capture the Perseids the other night. Worked like a champ! I just wanted my old intervalometer for a remote shutter release. I contacted the maker and they said that no, it does not work with the X30. So for now, I bought a manual cable release that screws into the shutter button. I haven't tried the WIFI program for my Ipad yet, but plan to this Friday night to capture a Delta 4 rocket launch from the cape. Have you (or anyone that sees this) shot at night yet? When I shot the meteor shower, I had to keep the ISO at 100 so I could use the 30 sec shutter. Got a few FAINT ones, nothing like my old T4i lol. Just curious what settings anyone has used. Again, thanks for your reply. Have A GREAT ONE.

The third device, a Hahnel Giga-T Pro II came up trumps as it works correctly, at least as a wireless release. It work in both sockets using the appropriate cables.

My theory is still that it's the voltage drop across (most) electronic switches that causes the problem. Obviously, a mechanical switch is a dead short but an electronic one can give a drop of 1.2V. I've no intention of dismantling the Hahnel receiver to find out what it does differently from the first two I tried.....
