Hi, I have an old EOS Rebel 300D that hasn't been used in years & was wondering what the largest capacity compact flash II card that can be used with the camera? I have an 1GB & 512MB cards, that both work, but wanted to try a 16gb or 32gb card. I'll need new batteries also as mine want hold a charge.

According to the dpReview specs page the Digital Rebel (300D) supports the FAT 32 format so your camera should be good to 512GB. There was a lot of forward planning/future proofing done when the Compact Flash spec was originally written especially compared to the SD card spec which has had to be revised twice to cope with ever expanding memory size.

A lot of people seem to like SterlingTEK batteries and a pair of BP511's are available from Amazon.com for $24.99 which should get you going.

Also the black plastic on the body has become sticky and black comes off on my hands. Any idea how to clean the sticky off without damaging the plastic?

Thanks.

I've had this happen a couple of times (a camera and a mouse to be exact) and have found rubbing with a tissue soaked in isopropyl alcohol (do not spray/pour it on the camera just use wetted tissue/cloth) eventually does the job but it does take a lot of elbow grease.

Hope this helps

Ian
