A great compromise
2
I've had this camera for a few years now and its really a wonderful camera, the best compromise between high quality and portability I've come across. I recently got a Panasonic TZ70 and a Canon EOS M3, both of which have their pros (and cons), but the stylus 1 holds its own. Fabulous integrated viewfinder, pinpoint and fast focusing, sharp 2.8 lens throughout the range of 28-300 mm. The drawbacks: the sensor is only 35% bigger than a common compact sensor and it has only 12mp, but it takes lovely pictures, with quite a bit of dynamic latitude in RAW. And yes, compromise is compromise: the Panasonic slides in any pocket whereas the Stylus prefers the megapocket of my Northface jacket. But IQ of the Panasonic doesn't come near to the Stylus and don't expect too much from the enormous zoom. Does the EOS M3 (or any another APS-C that I have owned) necessarily take better pictures? Of course it does, but not always and not for all purposes. On the internet 12mp usually is enough. And changing lenses may just make you lose the great shot. Also, I find the Stylus UI absolutely smooth, easy and very comprehensive. It takes a bit of studying, but once you have the hang of it's a breeze. And it is very customizable, something I missed in my EOS 100D.
