EOS 100D/SL1 lens correction data

I am looking at a newly-acquired and relatively recently-built (I think) EOS 100D.  Having just got an EF-S 55-250 IS STM for it (brand new, how recently made I don't know), I was surprised to see that the camera's menu states that correction data is unavailable for this lens, unlike the supplied standard 18-55 IS STM.  Is this usual?  A quick read around indicates I can download correction data anyway and add it to the camera's store of correction data, but I was a little curious and concerned about the initial absence.  Apologies if it's been asked before - so far search has found similar questions but not the exact one I'm asking - and most were posted when the body and lenses were very new to the market.  Thanks in advance for any input.
