Ask yourself this: In the rare event that your 50/1.8 or 35/2.4 suffered water ingress, would you be willing to pay the 100 dollars again to get a replacement rather than paying the extra 100 up front?

Given those lenses are plastic, glass and a bit of metal, with not too many lens elements, what are the chances that you will notice the problem, dry the lens out, and have it fully working again after a few days?
