Are you sure about that ? When I open the .cr2 file in a non-canon viewer (like windows default picture viewer) it still shows the picture style applied. In fact that is the main reason why I thought picture styles are permanently applied to the raw file. Perhaps the windows viewer knows how to fully interpret .cr2 files ?
Windows default picture viewer is just that a viewer,
You can ignore the applied picture style in any post processing software like DPP or Photoshop, Photoshop Elements etc.
