I chose the 300mm f4 because of the f4 aperture, the expected sharpness and because I had the MC-14 already from my 40-150 pro. I had bought it already in speculation of the 300mm and the then possible 840mm.

The last trigger was an Olympus presentation, where I could assure myself, that the lens was fast and not as big and heavy as some reviewers spread over the net. In reality it's fairly light and small in relation to comparable Canikon primes. I shoot hours freehand with it and I'm not young anymore.

I mostly use the lens with the MC-14. I very seldom find that I need anything less than 840mm for BIF in my birding territories, instead I have still to crop. Should I need a longer zoom, however, I still have my pany 100-300, that is acceptably sharp from f/6.3 on. But I have never used it since the 300mm has arrived. The only problem now is, I would need another MC-14 for my 40-150 pro again.
