RX1 is an action camera!

Coincidence?

I was tempted by those RX1(R) once, especially as they were getting (relatively) cheaper and cheaper on Ebay. But the main thing that kept me from pulling the trigger was AF. videos I kept seeing showed a camera that struggled in low light and with subjects that moved. I wasn't shooting sports, just people going about and I was foreseeing a lot of missed shots and frustration on my part. With no firmware support at all, it seemed foolish to invest in such a camera, especially the premium price you pay for it.

I went the DSLR route for FF, BTW.

No coincidence as such. I got into trying one of those RX1 when the prices had gone down considerably for second hand models in particular.

It is true that there is no firmware support, as in upgrades etc, but that camera is simply stunning in its rendering, don't forget the superb Zeiss 35/2.0, the rear lens reaches almost all the way down to the sensor, custom built just for this camera!

The rumours about the AF are true, not ideal in low light, but not any worse (disclaimer: anecdotal from last week end!) than the Pen-F in low light.

I find that unless it is after dark, the AF is actually not bad. I have no issues in quick shots, like this almost action type shot, taken from a TukTuk moving at maybe 40km/h and the camels slightly faster:
