70-300 vs 28-300

I had a D800 and 24-70 which were stolen.  The insurance company were excellent and paid out within a few days and I've decided to largely spend the insurance money on drone photography.

However, I also have a D700, which continues to delight me, and a 70-300, which I very much like too.  This combination works well but there are many times I want something wider than 70.  I've been wondering about selling the 70-300 and replacing it with a 28-300.

There clearly have to be compromises to get the extra width, so what would I be giving up?

Note: I quite often use the 70-300 for portraits at 300, where it produces lovely background blur.
