I want to add to my own post that I forgot to mention that lenses often are more important than sensors for image quality. I know nothing about Sony lenses, but from other lenses the OP refers to I have owned an EFS 55-250, which I found mediocre, and I own an 40-150R which is good for its price but not much more, to be honest. I have an 12-40/2.8 PRO which is an excellent lens and together with the humble 16 MP sensor it can reach IQ levels that satisfies very high demands.

Lens quality is undoubtedly important. This comparison wasn't really to test the lenses although I did want to see how the well regarded 45mm f1.8 held up. It performed well as expected. As an aside there are three versions of the 55-250mm. I'm not sure which one you had but my understanding is the first was mediocre. I had the "IS II" and now have the STM. Both are excellent but the STM really is impressively sharp at the long end for the money. Here is a shot I took with the A6300 + adapted 55-250mm STM, heavily cropped then downsized for Facebook. I'm not home so I can't offer a full res version currently:
