Yes, your description matches mine when they are presented with the "wrong" light and have a lens slower than f1.8 fitted - basically, quite often it hunts a lot and can't settle on a focus point in subdued artificial light - especially if the subject is red, orange or yellow.  As you say, in natural light it seems as fast and decisive as the earlier models.
