i may try to rent a 16-55 for a weekend to see if I get along with the weight and size of the lens. I shoot mostly jpegs, don't have much time with young baby to do post processing. I'm slightly concerned about reading the 16-55 has a lot of distortion for landscape or general travel photos which needs corrected out of camera on the computer.

Distortion is not an issue with JPGs. With raw files, you can find the correction settings in your software; once you do that, you can invoke them as a default. At least, that is what Raw Therapee or Picture Window Pro can do.

Separate from lens distortion is distorted perspective at wide angle focal lengths no matter which lens. It is an issue for both JPGs and raw files and would require correction for individual photos.

And if you use Lightroom or several other programs you'll never see the distortion as it is built into the profiles and can't be disabled.    The main issues you'll have with the distortion on the 16-55 is you'll have to read about it here and with some old school reviewers that can't get over it.    Rarely and I mean rarely will you see real world examples of how the distortion (with appropriate corrections automatically applied) actually impacted the results -- I'm not sure I've seen one 16-55 image posted in reviews or here showing how the corrected image was a problem.   You will however see plenty of comments without images and perhaps a few that insist on showing the distortion without the corrections which is kind of stating the obvious since Fuji designed the lens that way.   I'm not saying that it's impossible to find any downsides to the software corrected distortion on the 16-55 and maybe everyone will start posting those images now to show it .
