Re: self timer vs shutter delay

Thank you very much to all of you.

I effectively confused the shutter delay and the timer.

I set the shutter delay back to none.

The lower button is a good way to set the timer I did not think of.

Merci

In most aspect, as well as application, the Self Timer (down key of the 4 ways navigation keys) and Shutter Delay (inside Menu) are overlapping each other a lot.

The Self timer traditionally is for taking self portrait (so a signal light on counting down altering us to be in position and posed). Back to the old film cameras, we also used it to combat shutter-hitting shock (usually on a tripod and remote cable shutter not available).

Difference from Self timer, shutter delay could be work together with other shooting modes like AFS, Burst, 4K-Photo etc but Self timer cannot.

When self timer is enabled, we can see an icon on the screen to remind us. But no special indication on Shutter Delay has been enabled (except for a longer period of capturing).

The Shutter Delay indeed is some half baking shutter shock solution from Pany. When Oly offered its earliest version of anti-shock (likely 1/8" delay or so, not sure?), Panny introduce similar feature to its latest models. When shutter released, delay in capturing allowing possible vibration from focal shutter plane open and close over could eliminate SS. However, min 1sec delay is a lot and would basically be impossible for any steady handheld shooting. The practical use is very limited. While GX85 has the basically ss eliminated new shutter, the feature is merely of, no use IMHO.
