After weeks of use...

Really love this camera, right out the box it wasn't what I had expected at all (essentially which was a dumbed down camera with a big sensor).
Instead the G9X is in my opinion the first true pro's ultra compact and in a class of its own. For its size and weight, it out punches just about every camera out there. It's got no annoying design attributes and the reliance on the touch screen has been seemlessly integrated into the external controls- complimenting them, not dominating them. I didn't expect to like using the touch screen so much, but I really like how Canon has incorporated it here.
The G9X will likely take a dominant role as my go to compact camera that I'll use for a lot of my outdoor and indoor adventure work. What a capable and fun camera to use!!! I'm very impressed with the build quality which feels tightly engineered in every respect, and metal all over (amazing how tightly engineered the lens tubes are for example).
Have to say, it is by far the best of the new generation G-X series cameras- I didn't take to the G5 or G7 X cameras nearly as much as this little guy. It's designed so well for what it's supposed to handle- and in my opinion could be all the camera most users would really ever need for daily imaging.
I've got very little to gripe about here and think its a much bigger hit than the attention I've seen it get. Perhaps people are afraid of the touch screen and dismissed it just as I did, but boy I'm glad I gave it a second chance and actually tried it out.
A full featured powerhouse ultra compact that can do a lot more than you think for a camera of this size. Finally!

All of the above still holds true in my opinion. I find very few shortcomings with the G9X and have a difficult time finding areas it could improve, that said a couple of refinements would be worthwhile of consideration:
Wide end starting at 24mm
Newer version of the 1" sensor with improved read noise
