That might not be the case with your picture but if I would apply simili-HDR filters in order to boost apparent contrast, then the quality of the bokeh would drop sharply.

I've got to disagree with you, the above picture is very representative of my experience with the lens. The lens has some really great qualities but the bokeh it produces can get downright ugly.

And I would disagree with you and agree with JeanPierre, I use the 40-150 f2.8 for 90% of my outside portrait shoots for my business and am very very happy with the bokeh. One thing I may add is if you are using continuous autofocus your bokeh will suffer in quality, this could be your problem.
