So, my question is: Is my lens faulty or are all of the Olympus 40-150 2.8 lenses like this?

I don't think your lens is faulty. I've only had mine for short time, but have found instances of 'nervous' bokeh similar to that in your shot.

I believe that's the danger with lenses that are relentlessly computer-optimized for sharpness and contrast. The 40-150/2.8 is sharper and more contrasty than my 50-200SWD, but as you noted the bokeh is not as smooth. I think the new 300 Oly has bokeh properties similar to the 40-150.

I like the 40-150/2.8 better, though. I use it for action shooting where bokeh is a lesser consideration than focus speed and sharpness. I've got a 50-200SWD with EC-14 teleconverter I'll make you a deal on if you like the 50-200's compromise better.
