Maybe I'm just an impatient cuss :-D, but the new X Roadmap leaves me a bit frustrated and confused. Love the new smaller lenses and macro coming, nothing on the map disappointing, it's what is not on the map. Have a lot of Fuji glass, love the quality and sharpness. Also have a lot of Canon equipment. Canon mainly for sports/action, Fuji for quality and fun. I was so hoping the X-T2 would finally make me sell the Canon and go all Fuji, but where are the lenses for sports ?? Really the only direct useful one is the 50-140 2.8, if we are talking truly pro/sidelines type of lenses. The Fuji 100-400 is a great lens, but at 5.6, a little limiting. What happened to the 200 or 300 mm f2.0 that was rumored out there for a while ?? I WANT to change to all Fuji, but not even having something on the known horizon thru 2017 is disappointing. Any one else feel the same ??

300 or 200mm f2 would be too big,,I personally would like to see a tele prime - 200mm f2.8 - f4 and make it damm sharp!! Then if you need more focal length,,you hav a choice of two converters...

Dave...

I'm also disappointed. Only one more lens this year, and a couple next year? Smaller, slower, modest FLs? Yawn. Makes some sense for smaller Fuji cameras but not the X-T.

I too want to see a long prime of about 250mm (375 equiv), though f/2.8 would do for me. Might even settle for 3.5. Together with teleconverter(s) this would produce better results for many people than the current 100-400 zoom.

I thought a macro would be better at 100mm, but other than that, they have enough primes for me, and they offer a good selection of zoom lenses, with a few cheaper versions. I'm not interested in the 100-400, but I agree that f5.5 is disappointing.

But then I don't need every conceivable lens option to pour over. A wide angle zoom, fast primes at 21, 35, 50, 85, 90, 135 (equivalent), plus standard zoom lenses... I suppose they haven't come out with a 400mm prime birding lens yet. Just my opinion obviously, but I like knowing that I don't need to buy another $900 lens. :-)

I've written elsewhere that I'd like to see both shorter and longer primes. I'd love a 10 mm, even if it's slow. And I'd also like a ~ 130 mm f/2 (or 2.8, even) with OIS and TC compatability. The longer fast ones that the OP mentioned would be too big and pricey for me; I would be interested in a 200 or 300 mm f/4 WR OIS, though.

To me, the strangest lens on the new map is the 50 f/2. It seems like too much of a tweener. I'd have thought either the 56 or 60 had that covered. Or, better: replace the new 50 and 80, and the old 60, with a 70 WR 1:1 f/2 (or f/2.8) with or without OIS, with great focus throw and stops, full markings, and focus limiters. Great analog to the classic 105mm macros, and a fine size and working distance.

So, puzzled more than disappointed. I'll try to be patient. At least they're saving me money...

indeed: nothing new that I want, only another round of primes

There's absolutely no volume market for a 200mm F/2, 300mm F/2.8 or 400mm F/2.8 prime that only covers an APS-C circle. Actually, you'd need a substantial share of the flagship professional market held by Canon and Nikon to justify lenses of this sort.

Looking back to the 1980s, the Nikon 300mm F2 was so large and expensive that it was understandably rare. All the same, a lens that big would make quite an impression at trade shows.

I thought it lost a stop.

Definitely! It bothers me they are focusing on duplicating focal lengths that they've already done before they fill the obvious holes in their telephoto sports and wildlife offerings.

I suspect they are working on other lenses which aren't far enough along product development to put on the roadmap.

I guess Fuji made this move based on sales. They see that the Fuji 35/2 is a big seller and so they continue this approach and make smaller versions of 23 50 and 80 as priority

The 50-140 and 100-400 are high end products but maybe the sales are not that ideal and so they delayed some other high end lenses such as the big telephoto lenses?

At this time I do not think it is a reasonable expectation for Fuji to be equal to to Canon's top gear for sports and action. It is clear that Fuji's focus at this time is not for an area where they cannot compete.

What Canon lenses do you use that you hope to replace with a Fuji brand?

I have never heard those rumors. No-one produces a 300mm f/2.0 lens at the present time. Canon and Nikon do make 200mm f/2.0 lenses but they are very expensive and rare, used nearly exclusively by professionals. Nikon and Canon both have a solid professional user base who use cameras that can take full advantage of the performance of those lenses.

Fuji can make any lens they want. They make extremely high performance professional lenses for broadcast video cameras. But at this time, professional sports/action shooters are not their target segment.

I for one, surely don't feel disappointed. I make the most of what I can have.

Of course, you can WANT anything you like. You may even feel disappointed because you cannot have what you want. But I do not think it's reasonable to blame Fuji for your disappointment.
