Hey,

I'm looking to get a camera, either the X100T or the X-Pro 2 and am trying to weigh up which to get.

My needs are that I will be shooting predominantly 35mm focal length (equivalent), perhaps 28mm or 50mm but I want to stick to 'one' as much as I can.

I'll be shooting portraits, environmental portraits etc - basically shots of people.

I want to stick to one focal length to really learn it and develop an aesthetic. I like photographers like Araki, who is generally a 35/50mm guy, and other people like Juergen Teller who sticks to 35mm. (Please google them to see their work, but be warned NSFW)

The X100T appears initially because it's 35mm and you have the convertors to go to 28/50. From my 'keep it simple' approach this seems to work well.

The XPro2 appeals because of some of it's pro features, no pun intended. The dual card slots, slighter higher resolution (not necessary but good for a bit of cropping if I'm keeping to one focal length), the potential for changing lenses if I want to down the line etc.

The positive to each is also it's (potential) negative - i.e. the X100T's limitations or the X-Pro2's extra size/weight (esp w/the 23 1.4).

What would you suggest I do? I'm sure both will be fine, it's ultimately no big deal, naturally I'm just looking to be smart about it.

Thanks!

You have probably read a lot of these comments here.

I have both cameras:

X100T itself, and X PRO 2 with 35 F2, Voigtlander 40 F1.4

1. X100T has a quitter shutter. It's better when I am shooting people on the street. It's stealthy. Also, it's smaller as well, less easier to get noticed.

2. To shoot 35mm focal length on pro 2, you can only get the 23 f1.4 right now. Fuji is releasing 23 f2 with weather resistant, which i am really interested in. It shouldn't go over $500. So the price difference is pretty big. You are almost spending twice as much on the Pro 2. But if you want to try manual legacy lenses with the same focal length, you need pro 2. The manual focusing on X100T isn't so pleasant.

3. I used X100T mostly when I need wider lens, as I don't have anything wider than 35mm. I found Pro 2 a much more capable camera and I would probably use it even more often after getting 23mm F2 WR.

4. Pro 2 has better AF, but i've been using single point AF and MF mostly. The joystick also make life way better.

That being said, they are both awesome, but if you have cash, buying pro 2 will give you more flexibility and power.

Both do have the option of a silent shutter.

X100T has a leaf shutter and there's basically no sound.

XPRO 2 turning the shutter sound off, still not totally silent. Unless moving to electronic shutter.

That is what I said, both have the option of a silent (ie. electronic) shutter

Yes, but the X100T also has a near silent mechanical shutter.
