From FujiFilm Aust - Maximising AF
25

Been swapping emails with FujiFilm Aus for a couple of weeks now. Must say they are very helpful, somewhat different to Nikon

The following is from a PDF emailed to me today. Also this link to an AF Handbook. May have been posted previously so apologies of this is already common knowledge.

Recommendations for maximising AF performance:

1)Ensure that the shutter type is set to Mechanical Shutter (MS) only. The camera will not focus between each shot when electronic shutter is enabled in ES or MS+ES modes.

2)High Performance Mode: ON. This feature exists in the Power Management Settings. It is definitely worth sacrificing some battery life (about 20 pictures worth) for faster performance.

3)Turn Face Detection Off. If you have Face Detection set to ON, the camera will focus only with Contrast Detection AutoFocus (CDAF). The faster Phase Detection AF (PDAF) will work only when Face Detection is disabled.

4)Keep subjects within the phase detection pixels area located in the center of the sensor to gain faster AF. The phase detection pixels are represented by the larger square AF points.

5)Take advantage of all the phase detection pixels by setting the Zone AF box to cover all of the phase detection pixels.

6)If using Single Point AF, increase the size of the AF-box to maximum.

7)PRE-AF: The camera will continuously adjust focus, even if the shutter is not pressed (of half pressed). This can help to get the first shot in focus quicker. This does decrease battery life.
