This is my first Huawei phone. Previous experience is Nokia, HTC and Samsung. I loved the older HTC, but my country don't ship the high end models. My previous 2 phones were Samsung Note 1 and Note 3.
What I like:
After reading the reviews, I was very skeptic. My user experience thus far after 6 days use is very impressive, and I don't experience the problems other review sites had. The knuckle screenshot works every time to take a screen shot. The software is nice and powerful. I was disappointed with the lack of the App drawer, but after working with the phone and managing it, I don't worry about the drawer anymore, but it is still a nice feature to have
That said, I find the camera better and more responsive than my Note 3. I know I'm comparing two phones that's 2 years apart, but still it's worth to bench them together. Battery lasts me 1.5 days and I'm a power user. Social apps, 2 mail accounts, photos here and there....
Got a screen protector and plastic cover inside the box. Most apps I didn't like I could uninstall!!! That is one Hell Of A Bonus!!!! My contract came with two free screen replacements for the duration of the contract. This is a nice deal.
What I don't like:
I want a Infra red port with the phone. I use it for the TV. Why?? Because if I switch the TV off with the normal remote because the kids are past their bedtime, all Hell brakes loose. But if I switch it off with the phone they don't know what happened. Daddy is busy with his phone....wasn't me
Why, O why do they make these phones so slippery?? Please make the backside ruff so the bloody thing don't feel like a wet bar of soap. This goes to all phone manufacturers.
For the price of the high end phones I would like to sacrifice the beautiful packaging for a nicer set of headphones/earpieces, whatever you want to call them.
Had a hard time to copy the files from my pc to the phone and to get the software to work, but after reading the e-manual all was sorted - RTFM
Verdict:
Overall, I'm very impressed with the phone and Brand. I think Huawei got a new user for a long time.
I have the Mate 8 for 3 month. Excellent smartphone, very satisfied. The audio through (bluetooth) speakers or headphones is very good. (important to me as I listen to music 3-4 hours a day)
The screen is excellent for reading e-books.
The large battery is also a plus.
To copy files from from PC to the Mate 8, I use this app. Works very good:
