It doesn't seem to work. When I uncheck the AF Distance Indicato the AF Distance Indicator disappears regardless of where the lens's clutch is. When I uncheck the MF Distance Indicator, it disappears accordingly.
That's correct, any of the features in DISP CUSTOM SETTING that are not checked will not be active and you will not see them in the EVF or LCD.
What I want to do is to get the MF distance indicator on the LCD screen when the 14mm/f2.8 is in manual focus mode and/or the XE2 is in either AF or MF mode.
Like I said in my first post, once you mount one of the three lenses with AF/MF clutch on your X-E2, the electronic MF Distance Indicator is no longer available; no matter how you put the X-E2 into MF. It is also not available when the X-E2 is in AF; that's what the AF Distance Indicator is for. There is also no need to move the front switch from S or C because you still have to pull the clutch back to unlock the focus ring.

When you have the clutch forward, you have the lens and the X-E2 in AF, not MF. You can verify that because the focus ring on the lens will be locked. The distance scale you are seeing then is the AF distance scale. The X-E2, like the other X-series cameras has both an AF and a MF distance scale.
Go into SETUP MENU 1 -> SCREEN SET-UP -> DISP CUSTOM SETTING (bottom of second screen) and verify that both AF DISTANCE INDICATOR and MF DISTANCE INDICATOR are checked. Uncheck AF DISTANCE INDICATOR and the only time you will see an electronic distance scale in the EVF or LCD is when you use an AF lens without the AF/MF clutch and set the X-E2 into MF with the front switch.
