Washed out, underwhelming images

Hi all - I'm very new to DSLR photography, and the Pentax K-50 is my first DSLR. I have 3 lenses - kit 50-200 mm zoom, kit 18-55, and an f1.8. I love to "explore" and take pictures of landscape. I find that when I take closeups - with any of those lenses - they turn out pretty decent. However, when I take shots of more distant landscapes like this one, they turn out very faded / washed out. I'm assuming this is something I am doing wrong as a newbie, and not an issue with the camera.

Here are the specs on this photo if it might help in diagnosis of the problem:

Resolution - 4928x3264; 300 dpi

Bit depth: 24

Resolution unit: 2 (what's this?)

Color: sRGB

F/22

Exposure: 1/3200

ISO: 12800

Focal length: 50mm

35mm focal length (what's the difference between this and normal focal length?): 75

I wondered if it might be the high ISO (it was a pretty overcast day), but I have equally as underwhelming shots at Sedona where the sun was bright and I was using ISOs at 100-200.

Any help for this newbie is much appreciated!
