External battery using a coupler for G7; what am I doing wrong?

Hello everyone,

I put together an external battery pack for my G7 (to do time lapse on very cold nights, so I can keep the batteries warm outside the camera). Got the AC adapter and coupler from amazon ,testing it with the camera before cutting the cord, and connected it to a pair of 18650's.  I get the proper voltage of about 8.4V (when the batteries are fully charged) across the + and - leads on the coupler, just like a fresh DMW-BLC12 battery.  But the camera does not turn on with the coupler and 2x18650.

I suspect that the other two leads on the coupler have something to do with this.

Thanks for your help

Steve
