I bought a used 16 1.4 off ebay and would like some feedback to determine if my lens is broken in some way.
- When I switch it to MF there is significant vibration feedback as I focus.
- AF motor also has vibration feedback
- When I shine a flashlight in front of the lens the front element has a milky look to it that my other 2 lenses do not.
- Tiny bit of mount play (although my 16-55 has the same, but 35 does not)
I would appreciate any feedback on your own experience with the lens so I can determine if I have to send it back.
I did look very closely at the 16 in the shop. Had an opportunity to buy a mint secondhand one at very good price.
I did not see any milkiness in the visible lens elements. There did not appear to be any AF motor noises. However, this was in a shop though not busy, there were some ambient noise.
There was a very slight mount play. I noticed the same in my brand-new 10-24. I also checked two other samples of the 10-24 in the store with the same amount of play. My 18-55 does not have any significant play. My 23 f/1.4 does have a slight mount play. I would say similar to the 16. My 35 f/2 is the tightest of all my lenses. No mount play whatsoever.
When you were checking out the 16 1.4, did you feel any motor vibration when you auto focused or manual focused?
I can feel it on the lens and it passes through to the camera body. Its very noticeable.
The copy of the 16 I played with did not have any noticeable vibration at all. I ran through minimum and maximum focus range.
