I've done some further testing, and more comparisons between the 35 f1.4 and the 35 f2 and got some better results this morning. Admittedly I accidentally had Continuous Autofocus (sorry I'm new to Fuji bodies) which explained some of the erratic behavior, I was experiencing with the 35f2. Now that things are locked, I can concur with a lot of what the folks on this thread (and many others) have said. It's definitely one of the slower focusing lenses of the bunch, compared to my other Fuji primes, which I found to catch focus, but it definitely is slightly to moderately faster and MUCH quieter than the 35f1.4. In low light though, I would have to say their about even in autofocus, which is what I was experiencing last night, in a much lower light setting.

I use AF-S and 35/2 focuses very fast without fuss for me. Reviews I read say that it is much faster than 35/1.4 and very close to 23/1.4 which has supposedly the fastest autofocus. I can't agree with your assessment. There is nothing slow about it. I think you have a bad copy.

Hi Igelfeld,

Thanks for your insights on this. I've been curious whether I have a bad copy or not. It's been hard for me to tell whether I have a bad one or not. I'm also new yo Fuji so I'm getting aquanted with the nuances of the Fuji system. I own a 23mm f1.4 as well, so I'll try and test them next to each other with my XT-1 body.

Just to clarify what I'm currenlty experiencing. In well lit situations, my 35f2 is quick and snappy, and has not produced any issues, but in scenarios, when I have taken a shot from a subject that is lets say 14-20 feet away and then quickly move to a closer object lets say that's maybe 2 feet away, the lens takes longer than I'm used to snapping into focus on the close subject, and sometimes hunts a bit. I notice this happening a lot during more low light situations, when I'm maybe at ISO1600-3200 but with the lens wide open.
From what I remember, when I've done the same thing with my other lenses like the 56 or the 23, of going from far to near, it's time to snap in to focus on the close subject is quite fast!

Based on what I'm describing am I hitting a limitation of the lens, or do I perhaps have a bad one? Maybe I should go to the store and try to compare between to models, to see?

Just curious if anything above stands out as an issue in operations, or a bad copy....

What happened with your copy?

I´m experiencing issues along the same lines. The 35mm 2.0 hunts and finds it very hard to focus indoors. It´s way slower than the 27mm 2.8. Wondering if it is a bad copy, or to be expected? I wanted the 35mm for shooting fast moving kids.
