Right, this is what I meant. ISO=800 is more than decent - it is very good

And what do you do when ISO 800 and F5.6 leaves you with too slow of a shutter speed?

I'd bump ISO up to 3200.

Then you'll end up with a lot more noisy out of focus shots than rsmithgi will end up with...

There's more to a fast lens than being able to use a lower aperture -- the wider aperture when acquiring focus often allows faster and better acquisition than with slower lenses.

BTW, how exactly is trying to make him defend his lens purchase contributing anything positive here?

Well, for me convenience is very important. Without it I'm losing pleasure of photography. If situation (light) is unfavorable to take a shot, I'll wait for another opportunity.

As you mentioned in your original post, you need this lens to take photos of your child playing  soccer, that is why I thought that you have a second and third chance to take photo of desirable quality. BTW, I'm quite satisfied with ISO quality of my GH2.

About AF speed: for soccer play you could use zone pre-focus; at F 5.6 it is deep enough to get sharp shots.

Certainly, if you think you can do better with fast zoom, try it.

Good luck
