The 3:2 & 1:1 formats are really a gimmick. The sensor is 4:3 native. The photodiodes are larger than a 4/3rds which is why it's so good in low light. Equal or better than the 18 mp aps-c in my Canon M.

Not necessarily so. 3:2 is the native format of DSLR's and makes a better fit on the newer computer screens. I use it all the time, both for my DSLR's and my G1X-II. So I don't think it is a gimmick at all. For me it is what I use and is very nice.

Now I know that you primarily use a tablet, so for you 4:3 may be your preferred format and the G1X 4:3 your preferred format. Fine and dandy. But don't summarily dismiss what others prefer as simply a gimmick.

As I said earlier, both G1X's are fine cameras. Enjoy what you have. Some of us just prefer the tradeoffs made in the G1X-II. And that is fine too.

Actually my desktop is 1920:1200. I just use a phone for comments.

Panasonic was the first to implement the multi format option. But the sensor at its maximum resolution is 4:3 on the G1X (both). That was my point.
