There are some things I will buy reconditioned but usually not things that rely on solid-state circuitry.  With computerized cameras and lenses, sometimes the reason they had to be returned was for some intermittent problem that the service center could not get to recur and, therefore, could not fix because they could not find anything wrong.  So it goes back out to some unlucky person who might not find out until that 30-, 60- or 90-day warranty has run out.

Hand tools, power tools and the like, yes, buy them all the time but not solid state.
