Re: What is the best non-zipper case for the G7X mark II?

The Tamrac 5292 T92 arrived. It surprised me by how bulky it was, even though I had known the dimensions.

This is the killer--the external depth of the 5292 compared with the G7X mark II

The front view.

So while I was prepared to have something that was a bit bulkier, this just seemed a bit too much so. Build quality is excellent as always with Tamrac bags. The G7XmII fits loosely inside--indeed, it slides in very easily (maybe a bit too easily). I have to consider whether to return it (currently leaning that way).

I see that the Tamrac 5290 has some interesting dimensions:

Tamrac 5290

  • 3 x 4.75 x 4 inches (half an inch narrower, half an inch shallower, 1 inch shorter)
  • Exterior Dimensions 4.0 x 3.0 x 4 3/4" (10 x 8.0 x 12cm) (WxDxH)
  • Interior Dimensions 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 x 3 3/4" (6.0 x 4.0 x 10cm) (WxDxH)

The G7X mark II is smaller than the interior dimensions (just slightly) in every dimension except for height; but the overall G7X height is lower than the 4 3/4" height; so perhaps it would still be sufficiently tall to be protective?

Edit: By the way, I found this ebay post for the 5290, showing it with the G7X . It's not clear just how snug it is in the bag (which is a worry with the G7XmII being slightly thicker). I certainly wouldn't want a bag that required me to fiddle with the camera to get it to slide in :-/.   But what if it turns out to be perfect?
