Hi,

In 'one shot' mode it uses 'focus priority', when this is active the camera will not take a photo till focus has been achieved. Hence at times there can be a delay.

There is also a 2 second timer delay, check in the menu's you havn't set that, you would know if this was the case because it would be a constant 2 sec. delay.

'best way to set the camera for best daylight action shots.'

I would use 'shutter priority' and set the shutter speed to freeze the action, depends on what your shooting as to shutter speed, trial and error here I'm afraid.

Use 'Aperture priority' for general photography as you can adjust your F stop to give you a large or small depth of field depending on what you are trying to achieve.

There's lots of info for free if you Google it, and there are many good books to give you an insight into DSLR photography.
