This two examples don't looks like top photos to me, they are actually dissapointing.

Disappointing? In what sense?

A few more disappointing ones.

They are nice enough, and I can only speculate of course what he meant, but for me personally these would be "disappointing" in a way because I know I can get a noticeably sharper result (esp. towards the edges) with less sharpening halo by not relying on the camera's built-in JPEG engine but instead shooting raw.

Only matters for pixel peepers like myself.

Well, this is not my main camera anyway. If I want to pixel peep my photos, I use my Nikon D810 which accompanies me on all my travels, the G1XMII is just a compact that I bring along with me mainly for Videos and a few snapshots, so for that purpose it is quite good enough. If I want better, I use my D810 in raw mode and use PS6 for processing, which I don't want to do with the G1XMII photos.

Also, it all depends how we analyse a picture. A photo is about communication, of a scene, a moment in tme, a mood etc and should be looked at in its totality in relation to  the rules of composition, the technical and symbolic codes used with the available light. Anyway, that’s what I was taught in art school. Pixel peeping is only for the technical aspect that I am not saying should be ignored, but it should be to the detriment of good composition and the communication aspect. That reminds me of the master: There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept. Ansel Adam
