Got a T6i today - question about viewfinder display of settings - dim/bright

I made the leap from my Panasonic bridge camera and picked up a factory reconditioned T6i and a couple of lenses.  Been playing around for a few moments today.

I was working in Manual mode where I can see the aperture and shutter and iso displayed in the bottom of the viewfinder.  I noticed it is sometimes difficult to see the information (my eyesight is not the greatest).  What I noticed is that if I aim at a bright area like a sunny sky the text becomes brighter.  But if I aim at a darker area, say the ground it gets dimmer.  I would like it to stay bright at all times.

Was wondering what the camera is using to determine this and if there is some setting to force it to stay brighter.  I assume there isn't.   I know I can see this information in Live Mode on the LCD, but I like to work through the viewfinder.
