Re: What is the best non-zipper case for the G7X mark II?

Just an update:

I asked a question on Amazon about the 5692 and the G7XmII; the shop owner replied that it would not fit. One of the G7X owners said that it might.

Then I did some more searching online (looking through google images on compact camera cases to try to find another flip-and-clip type of case) and found this 2008 dpreview forum post that mentions the Tamrac 5292 T2 case and shows pictures of that case with the Canon G10.

Image from Al Ruscelli's post showing the G10 with the Tamrac 5292 T2

The G10 (4.3 x 3.1 x 1.8 in) is really not too much bigger than the G7X mark II (4.2 x 2.4 x 1.7 in.). It might slosh around a little on the sides (maybe a bit more than 1/4" on either side (2.4" G7X vs. 2.75" Tamrac 5292 T2 width)), but that seems livable. The 3.5" depth of the case is a bit much (1.5" extra depth over the almost 2" of the camera itself), but maybe it is a reasonable trade off for having a workable case with this form factor (flip-and-clip lid and no zipper on the camera part of the case).

Tamrac 5292 T2

  • Internal dimension: 2 3/4" W x 4 3/4" H x 2" D,
  • External dimensions: 4 1/2" W x 5 3/4" H x 3 1/2" D
