Entertaining the Fuji XE-2 deal
Jun 7, 2016
I can tell this model is being discontinued and if I don't pull the trigger the next time I get in on a cheap deal would have to wait on another model being discontinued (i.e. say the XT-1 in favor of a new XT-2, etc).
I've seen somewhat mediocre copies of the 18-55 (LensTips) to other reviews saying it performs quite well. I imagine like many standard zooms, a fast standard zoom may be subject to copy variation, so I might as well try one and see if I get a good copy before they are all out.
Like Pentax, the Fuji seems to get an AF system that isn't as well regarded in the mirrorless world as others it seems, but shooting with a Pentax now it seems I would probably get over it in favor of controls/ergonomics and overall other benefits.
For any bodies/lenses that do not have WR designation, do you guys notice any issues with dust ingress, etc? Even among lenses that do not have weather sealing designation I notice that the amount of visible dust that ends up getting in them can vary regardless...so are there any Fuji non-WR lenses that suck up dust? And despite not being a WR body I would expect the accumulation of sensor dust or LCD/EVF dust, etc of the XE-2 to be minimal?
I don't care much about sensors without OLPF especially when the pixel pitch is somewhat large, but it does look like one benefit of X-Trans with what looks to be a giant green pixel (4x4) is the ability to do a bit better noise control. And I am liking the equivalent aperture vs size/cost/weight ratios so far especially with all the pricing reductions lately. For example the Fuji 23mm 1.4 is the same cost or cheaper compared to a Sony 35mm f2.8 or 24mm 1.8, etc. The only other 35mm equivalent that is also nice are the Tamron 35mm 1.8 VC or Canon 35mm f2 IS, but they require larger bodies to mount onto.
What I found interesting using camerasize is that the 18-55 despite being a stop faster with more tele length is about same size/weight as my Pentax K-50 + 18-50 WR RE.
I've noticed even though there has been a ton of sales, no one really is making much noise about them on this forum?
