I have a Canon SL1, and an old 430EX II flash unit. I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions as to how I can take the flash off the body and use it wirelessly. The whole transceiver thing is a bit confusing and have been trying to research it, but I feel like I'm missing something.

I don't have money to buy a new flash unit, and it wouldn't matter since the SL1 doesn't have a integrated wireless system. So do I buy a flash trigger, or do I get a transceiver? Any brands to recommend or avoid?

Any help would be much appreciated!

If you're interested in radio triggers, consider the Yongnuo transceivers (YN622C II).

Another option is a single YN622C II transceiver paired with the YN622-TX controller. Just be sure to get the version II transceiver. The prepackaged kits still seem to ship with the version I transceiver.

The optical trigger can work well, but it's necessary to always make sure there's line of sight. For me, using the radio triggers just makes it easier.
