I've narrowed my search down the the X70 and the RX100 M3 or M4. It's a tough call...smaller sensor with more zoom or larger sensor with fixed focal length.

I'm in love right now with the 35mm focal length. If the 35mm crop mode on the X70 is turned on, will it stay on the next time the camera is turned on? Or do I have to select it every time?.

I'm bummed to read the ND filter isn't automatic. Do you think this is something they might change in a future firmware update?

No, FW can't fix it, the X-70 doesn't have a built-in ND filter.

The crop mode goes away when you turn the camera off, you need to select it each time. And the crop selection can't be assigned to a custom button. The crop mode won't record in RAW, only jpeg.

You might want to also consider the GR II. It has the large sensor and a tack-sharp 18mm prime, a built-in ND filter that can be manual or automatic, the crop modes stay on when the camera is turned and can be set as part of a custom camera set-up slot, the crop FL can be assigned to any custom button allowing instant toggling between 18mm and the 35mm and 47mm crops, and the crops can be recorded as RAW and Jpeg files.

Also, the GR II is thinner than the RX100. Worth a look.

High ISO GRII samples of people in google look like grey zombies. GR skin tones are awful.

I use a GR II and a Fuji almost every day.  IQ is nearly indistinguishable with the GR II having a slight landscape detail advantage due to the Bayer CFA.  And, neither cameras are great with high ISO JPEG portraits (waxy skin tones with the Fuji), but both look excellent with high ISO RAW.

There are horrible Fuji samples on Google too that look nothing like my X-E2 results.
