Hi,
As I approach another travel opportunity I face that constant first world photography problem - which lens will make the cut. I will be going to Osaka with 3 children (2,5,6) and my wife and before you say that I will not get any pictures I often manage just fine and they have learnt to wait. We will be visiting the usual temple, castle, nature walking, night panoramas of the town from towers, tourist traps but also the largest aquarium in Asia (8 floors). This last one poses a few problems for me as I have tried to get good shots of aquariums before with varying degrees of success.
I will be using X-t1 and these are the locked in lenses:
14mm - my most used lens and a non negotiable addition to any lens kit I take.
90mm - this may have less use but is an amazing lens and will help me with the detail pictures as well as kids portraiture. I also though with it being fairy fast I may be able to use it in the low light of the aquarium to get some close up animal shots (may even get to the zoo). Basically I love this lens although I mainly shoot wide.
The hard choice
35mm1.4: small, fast, great for kids photos, may be useful in low light of aquarium. On the downside a little tight for my liking as a general travel lens and it is a little boring a focal length for my liking. Will buy the 23f2 or x200 when released and I should have my travel kit sorted.
or
18-55mm: versatile but slow. Good generalist but just doesn't have the magic of 35mm for kids photos and I found it a little slow for aquarium photos in the past.
I can only can fit three lenses with the accessories I have so what do you think. To have an idea of what I take you can check my Flickr photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/sfowlerphotos/.
Thanks for any help you can give me in pairing back the kit.
cheers
Sam
