If you want a zoom lens I would definitely go for the XF 18-55: it's small, not too expensive and has very good optical quality.

If instead you prefer a prime lens I think there are 3 options:

- XF 35mm f1.4: great optical quality, not super fast in focusing.

- XF 35mm f2: I never tried it but I heard very good things about it.

- XF 27mm f2.8: probably the most underestimated XF lens: extremely compact, decently priced, good optical quality. I love this lens.

So after having the 18-55. What lenses would you recommend to complement?

Depends on what kind of photography you do, I think. The 18-55 is very "general purpose" and can cover most common needs.

I would consider the following options:

- If you don't need very long or short focal length, but you think you could be shooting in low light conditions, consider the 35mm f1.4 or, if it's in the budget, the 23mm f1.4.

- if you plan to do mostly landscape, so you're more interested in a wider lens, I would look at the 14mm f2.8 or the 10-24mm f4 (but this overlap quite significantly with the kit lens). Another very good and cheaper option is the Samyang (or Rokinon, or Walimex, it's always the same lens) 12mm f2: I have it and it's really good for the price.

- if you're more into portraits the 56mm f1.2 or the 90mm f2 would be the best choice.

- if you're into street photography most likely an ultra-small lens like the 27mm f2.8 would be a very good option..
