Patience pays! Beautiful shots, Geoff. Funny, I hadn't realised until I saw these two together that PNG is distinctly south of the equator, and your sun moves from right to left. I had the same problem in Johannesburg SA, when I couldn't fathom out which way was North!

That's a hoot, isn't it? I have spent just two months of my life north of the equator (in 1975 when I visited Greece, Palestine/Israel, and England -- and three days in 2005 when I visited Hong Kong) and had the same problem.

Here in Rabaul/Kokopo, eare just 4 degrees south of the equator -- but remember that at this time of the year, the sun is more than halfway up to the Tropic of Cancer, so we are getting a littlebit of a slant on. Still not much, of course, but hey, even a few degrees is a photographic blessing.

When visiting South Africa, the first I noticed something was "wrong" was the Moon - upside-down!

An Australian friend of mine once sent me map of the World that shows how things could be different, according to who is looking:

Cheers!
